Working with Evidence.com zip exports

Published

Many agencies and firms already hold body-cam and other media in Axon Evidence (Evidence.com) or similar systems. Getting that material into a working case chronology usually means exporting a package, then re-organizing it by hand.

exhibit.law accepts zip exports from Evidence.com and other discovery zips: upload the archive into the active case, expand it into individual files in a batch, and run the same transcription / OCR / draft-event pipeline you would for a normal upload.

What the zip path does

When you upload a .zip on the upload flow, the server validates and expands it into the batch. Each extracted file becomes case-scoped media (with the usual per-case dedup on identical bytes), then can be processed like any other exhibit.

Password-protected archives, zip-slip paths, and packages over the server’s size or file-count limits are refused with a clear error — we do not silently skip unsafe entries.

  • Evidence.com (and other) discovery zips expand into the batch
  • Files stay inside the case you uploaded to — no cross-matter library
  • Transcription and OCR follow file kind after expand
  • AI draft events wait for human review before they harden

Export in — not a two-way sync

This is an import of an export package, not a live sync with Evidence.com. exhibit.law does not pull from your Evidence account credentials, and it does not write back. Postgres in exhibit.law remains authoritative for the matter’s timeline and review state once files are in.

If you need notes offline later, CaseAdmins can request a one-way Obsidian vault export — that is also not a sync target.

After the archive expands

Work the batch like any other upload: watch progress, open Review for draft events, fix placeholder dates before approving, and use Search once transcripts exist. Body-cam inside the zip gets the same timed-transcript treatment as a direct upload.
